The Loring Military Heritage Center
We are the Loring Heritage Center and we are located
at 131 Cupp Road, in Limestone Main
on the former Loring Air Force Base which is
now called The Loring Commerce Center.
We are a Federally Registered Non-Profit
Organization with the Internal Revenue Service
under Section 501© 3.
We applied in the Summer of 2005 to the Loring
Commerce Center for a building on base to
open a Center and our request was granted,
nevertheless, we still have to pay for insurance, fuel, water and electricity along with several quarterly and annual fees, plus building upkeep. To protect our displays, the building must be heated during the Winter here in Northern Maine, as you know, and fuel cost is a large expense.
Our Center is located in the former bank building and we have items on display from the year 1948 when Loring Air Force Base was first built, to 1994 when the base was officially closed. The populations served is former Loring Air Force Base military personnel, their spouses and dependents and civilians who worked on the base as Civil Servants. Most of our display items are mainly donated and represent the 42 nd Bombardment Wing (host wing) and the numerous other squadrons that supported it.
